Memorial Physician Services Community Benefit

Memorial Physician Services (MPS) is a charitable organization based in Springfield, Illinois. Affiliated with Memorial Health System, MPS is a primary care network that is located in 11 branch clinics that support a variety of outpatient services throughout central Illinois. We are guided by our mission to maintain, restore and improve the health of the people and communities we serve.

We live out that mission in countless ways. We recognize our responsibility for providing quality healthcare, regardless of one's ability to pay. Our clinics provide important and meaningful resources to help ensure that those who are without health insurance receive the care they need when confronted with illness or injury.

We recognize that there are unfortunate occasions when patients are not able to pay for their medical care and are not eligible for federal or state medical assistance programs. Through our charity care program, the clinics provide financial assistance to patients unable to pay for their medical services.

We also return benefits to our communities through a multitude of educational efforts and research projects. Some of these include our leadership participation in health fairs and community health education. Many of our clinics host physicians/medical students, nursing students, technicians, and other health professionals. In addition, staff members donate money to other specified not-for-profit organizations throughout the year by participating in clinic fundraising activities. Several of our physicians serve on community boards including the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, Logan County Health Department, Morgan County Health Department, and Sangamon County Medical Society.

For the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, 2007, Memorial Physician Services (then called HealthCare Network Associates) returned $2,254,981 in community benefits. That total includes the unpaid costs of public programs totaling $2,154,124. Other direct community benefits delivered through research, education and additional community support including traditional charity care added up to $100,857.
